How much should I budget for my wedding?

One of the biggest disappointments for a bride is when she realizes her budget isn’t going to get her the dream wedding she had hoped. The reason this happens is because many brides just can’t put the visual idea together with how much they should expect to budget for that vision. Below we have put together some photographs that will assist a bride with this problem of not understanding what budget should correspond with each vision.

There are many components that determine how much you should budget for your wedding. In this article I want to give the bride and groom a way to quickly identify what they can expect with a variety of budgets. There are some expenses in a wedding that are fixed and do not change no matter how many guests you have such as photographer, video, DJ or Band. Then there are many expenses that change depending on the amount of guests such as; decor food, alcohol, desserts. This is exactly why we have come up with the following “Rules of Thumb” for budgeting a wedding.

Our first rule for wedding budgets is the “50 Rule”:

50/100/150/200/250/300

The $50.00 per guest budget it a minimalism budget. In most cases, you will be securing amateur vendors with little to no experience. You may also be doing many things yourself and even enlisting family and friends to provide you with some of the services.

For a plain wedding with many do it yourself elements and a combination of amateur and professional vendors, you should expect a realistic budget of $100.00 per person.

For a simple but slightly upgraded look, you can add specialty linens and slightly larger centerpieces and should plan to budget $150.00 per person.

A $200.00 per guest budget can afford you with all the little extra details that create a perfect theme and ambiance. This level does require some D.I.Y projects.

If you are able to budget $250.00 per guest you will have the privilege to have upscale décor with no need for D.I.Y. Projects.

This is the look everyone is dreaming of. If you want this look you need to budget $300.00 per person.

To pull together a dream wedding with stunning and breath taking décor you will need to budget a minimum of $300.00 per guest.

We hope this helps to put your vision and your budget together.

Happy Planning!
