Preventive Care

An Ounce Of Prevention Is Worth A Pound Of Cure…

Many people mistakenly believe that tooth decay, bad breath, and gum disease are simply a part of life. They don’t have to be! TLC 4 Gums emphasizes prevention – meaning that we partner with our patients in the defense against common dental problems, including tooth decay, bad breath, and gum disease. Dr. Wilson and his highly-skilled dental team can help you maintain a natural smile that you’ll be flashing well into your golden years.

How We Help You:

Tooth Decay

90% of adults have experienced some level of tooth decay. We’re trying to change that. With regular cleanings, proper home-care, and pro-active treatments, we can protect your tooth structure from attacking plaque and bacteria. We may recommend dental sealants (anti-cavity coatings) or fluoride supplements (tooth-strengthening mineral) for an extra measure of prevention.

Bad Breath (Halitosis)

There’s no way to sugarcoat it – bad breath is embarrassing. We feel your pain, and we can help! Bad breath usually stems from poor oral hygiene: People with less-than-adequate home care are especially prone. There’s no instant cure for bad breath, but with careful instruction, a little extra time spent at the sink each night, and regular dental cleanings, bad breath can be controlled. Oftentimes, bad breath is a sign of early-stage gum disease, so visit our office pronto for an exam and further instruction.

Gum Disease

While gum disease is usually something that strikes later in life, we believe in teaching children, teens, adults, and everyone really, ways to prevent this common condition from stealing your smile. Gum disease is the number one cause of adult tooth loss, and recent studies have confirmed that patients with gum disease are twice as likely to develop heart disease, diabetes, and other systemic illnesses. Brushing, flossing, and regular dental exams and cleanings are your best defense against this stealthy smile-stealer!

We can also help with:
  • Screening for Oral Cancer

  • Alleviating Headaches & Jaw Tension (Bruxism/Grinding)

  • Preventing Sports-Related Injuries (Mouthguards)

Teeth Whitening

Even if you begin with a bright, white smile, stains can settle on your teeth over time. Coffee, tea, tobacco, red wine, even fruit juices can contribute to a lackluster smile. Age and genetics also play a role. At TLC 4 Gums, we offer professional whitening to quickly and safely remove stains a restore your youthful appearance.

Sinsational Smile Teeth Whitening

Our in-office whitening system has been specially formulated to work with a plasma arc light, similar to a laser. The no-heat plasma arc light activates the whitening gel, which oxidizes and breaks apart stains that settle beneath the tooth enamel. With plasma arc teeth whitening, we can lighten your teeth up to 10 shades in a single office visit.

Tray Teeth Whitening

Tray teeth whitening combines professional bleaching gel with custom-made trays designed to fit your teeth. The trays are created in our office, and they hold the gel we provide against all of the upper and lower teeth. When used as directed over a period of about two weeks, professional tray teeth whitening can lighten teeth up to 10 shades.

Porcelain Veneers

Have you been considering a smile makeover but don’t know where to start? Whether you have gaps and stains or you have trouble pinpointing exactly what you’d like to change about your smile, we can help. With porcelain veneers, Dr. Wilson can erase flaws and create a smile you’ll be proud to share.

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers, also called laminates, are thin coverings that mask flaws on front teeth. Dr. Wilson custom designs the veneers, potentially altering the size, shape, and color of your teeth. With veneers, Dr. Wilson can close gaps, cover stains, repair chips or breaks, and lengthen or shorten teeth.

How are veneers different from crowns?

Veneers only cover the front surface of teeth. They’re about the thickness of a fingernail, yet once bonded to teeth, they’re extremely durable. The thin sheaths of porcelain are semi-translucent, so light shines through the veneers, just as it does with natural tooth enamel. only a small amout of tooth enamel has to be removed (and in many cases, no tooth enamel has to be removed!) to allow room for veneers, making them a very conservative option.

Other benefits of veneers include:
  • Stain resistant

  • Long lasting

  • Completely custom

  • Placed in just two visits

Crowns

Crowns repair teeth that have broken, decayed, or cracked. A crown surrounds the entire tooth and protects it from further damage. Dr. Wilson creates custom crowns shaded to match your existing tooth color and look completely natural. Advances in dental materials and bonding methods have resulted in more lifelike crowns than ever before. We can now create all-porcelain crowns that mimic natural teeth in appearance and function. All-porcelain crowns won’t leave a black line at the base of your gums, and they’ll resist stains for years and years. In most cases, we can design and place a crown in two visits.

Root Canals

Most people don’t think of root canals this way, but they’re actually tooth-saving procedures. A root canal is necessary when the inside of a tooth has become infected. Dr. Wilson removes the bacteria from within the tooth, places a crown, and voila – your tooth is as good as new. Root canals are often associated with discomfort, because the infection can cause throbbing and acute pain. With today’s anesthetics and precision tools, root canal therapy is a quick and comfortable procedure. Dr. Wilson has 20 years of experience performing successful root canals, and he’ll ensure your comfort during and after the procedure. If you need a root canal, don’t delay treatment. The problem will not resolve itself. In fact, if left untreated, the infection can spread and eventually lead to tooth loss.

Have no fear – root canal therapy will alleviate your tooth pain!

Crown & Bridge

Most adults are missing at least one tooth. Accidents, injuries, tooth decay, and gum disease are common culprits. No matter the cause – the cure can involve a custom bridge designed by Dr. Wilson. Crown and bridges, also known as simply bridges, fill the gap in your smile and restore your ability to chew and speak with ease. Supported by crowns, a bridge rests between two healthy teeth. A bridge will fill out cheeks for a more youthful facial profile, as well as prevent remaining teeth from shifting out of place. Bridges have long provided patients who are missing teeth an economical and natural-looking solution. Dr. Wilson works closely with a dental lab to ensure your bridge looks natural and feels comfortable. We often replace older bridges with modern, all-porcelain materials for a total smile makeover. If you have adequate bone density, Dr. Wilson might recommend an implant-supported bridge as an alternative. We take high-tech care personally! Implant Restorations

Healthy teeth are supported via roots that extend into the jawbone. When a tooth falls out, the root often falls out too. Until now, artificial teeth did not address the root loss. Dental implants are a revolutionary solution that not only gives patients new teeth – but new roots, as well. Dental implants were created in the 1960’s when an orthopedic surgeon discovered that bone tissue would fuse with titanium. A small, titanium post serves as an artificial tooth root, and the bone fuses with it to create a stable foundation for a new tooth. Dr. Wilson can attach a custom crown, bridge, or denture to dental implants for a naturally stable smile.

Benefits of dental implants:
  • Independently anchored – do not rely on neighboring teeth for support

  • Comfortable – implant-supported teeth feel and function naturally

  • Long lasting – the implants are designed to last a lifetime

  • Natural bone growth – the implants encourage new bone growth

Dr. Wilson works closely with local surgeons for precise and predictable implant surgery. Once the implant site has healed, he will place your crown, bridge, or denture atop the implant post(s). Dentures

Life can take a toll on teeth. For patients with few or no teeth remaining, dentures can offer a new lease on life. Secure-fit dentures, as designed by Dr. Wilson, allow patients to chew crunchy foods, speak clearly, and smile with renewed self-confidence.

At TLC 4 Gums, we custom design dentures according to your unique needs. Several types of dentures are available, including:
  • Partial dentures for patients with some healthy teeth remaining

  • Full dentures to replace all of the upper and/or lower teeth

  • Implant-supported dentures for maximum stability

Dr. Wilson will examine your mouth and health history to determine which options are right for your smile. Implant-supported dentures eliminate the need for clasps and pastes, and they encourage bone-tissue regeneration in the areas where the implants are placed. You don’t have to live with missing teeth. TLC 4 Gums will partner with you to renew your smile and restore your quality of life with custom dentures. We take high-tech care personally!
