New England Laborers’ Labor-Management Cooperation Trust

In a fiercely competitive economy, the success of both labor and management increasingly depends on their ability to define shared interests and pursue common goals. The New England Laborers’ Labor-Management Cooperation Trust (NELLMCT) was the first organization of its kind in the United States. Together with our signatory contractors and employers, NELLMCT works to maintain positive relationships with industry specialists in order to address the complex issues that arise in securing increased market share.

This includes working with government officials to make sure that procurement laws that insure a level playing field for our signatory contractors are maintained and enforced. We work closely with our sister funds to lobby legislators in the New England Region to pass laws that assist our signatory contractors to control spending and improve their bottom line. For example, our organization was instrumental in working with lawmakers to facilitate the passing of OSHA 10 laws across New England, which not only protect workers but also help our contractors by avoiding accidents and safety incidents that can lead to skyrocketing insurance costs.

Our Trust is committed to the principle that union contractors deliver the highest quality craftsmanship for every dollar spent and set the industry standard for reliability.

To achieve that end, we focus on marketing the value of our signatory contractors by tracking projects across New England and the US. From the planning stages, our program gives our contractors a wealth of information on upcoming projects. We also monitor projects to make sure all appropriate laws and regulations are being enforced from the bid stage forward to maintain a level playing field for the contractors who play by the rules. NELLMCT continues to provide information to both labor and management on vital industry issues and trends through symposiums and conferences.

New England Laborers’ Health and Safety Fund

Protecting Lives On and Off the Job

Both labor and management take the health and safety of working men and women very seriously. They know that the well being of our union members is intrinsically linked to the productivity and competiveness of the contractor or employer. The staff of this fund draws on the expertise of labor and management to provide information, technical counsel and timely assistance at job sites and work places throughout New England. They also provide assistance in promoting the development of training materials and courses that ensure worker safety, encourage safety education, along with programs that foster healthy lifestyles.

Our programs can help lower injury rates and reduce time lost on the job, translating into reduced insurance costs and projects that can continue on time and on budget. Every positive step towards mitigating injury in what can be dangerous occupations serves every employer, union member and their families.

This fund plays an integral role in conveying the message of health and safety in the workplace upon members, labor leaders, employers, and the general public through coordinated campaigns like Workzone Safety Awareness Week, as well as disseminating timely information on new scientific breakthroughs and safety protocols.

Putting our Knowledge into Action

Industry Specific Training in World Class Facilities

Since 1969, The New England Laborers' Training Trust Fund has been a recognized leader in the Laborer's International Union of North America's education and training structure.  Our trainees receive intensive classroom and hands-on job simulated instruction in all aspects of the Laborers' trade.  As the New England Laborers' Training Trust Fund continues to improve and expand to meet future needs, we are proud of our history, our Training Academies, the comprehensive training programs, and of course, the quality of our graduates.

With over 40 courses in integral skills, from blue print reading to tunneling our training funds offer members and signatory contractors the most comprehensive training courses in skills Laborers use on a daily basis.  We also have the ability to plan courses around the contractor’s schedule and to tailor our training modules to the needs of a specific project or contractor need.

All of our Apprenticeship Programs are run through the training centers in order to connect our new Laborers with the most up to date skills training in the industry.  Our Apprentices can receive classroom training and hands-on job simulated instruction working with their Apprenticeship Coordinator who guides them through the process to become a journeyman Laborer.  Apprentices leave the program prepared for positions of responsibility as journeymen and women Construction Craft Laborers.
