Everything You Need To Launch Your Real Estate Podcast

In case you haven’t heard yet, podcasts are the next “big thing” in marketing!

At the beginning of 2017, about 24% of Americans were subscribed to podcasts, and over the course of the year, that number has really grown. Guess what? It’s going to continue to grow!

This is your chance to get into podcasting early, grow an audience, and position yourself to dominate the competition before the real surge hits.

This is your opportunity to get ahead of your competition for once, rather than trying to catch up.

Having a real estate podcast will help you to:

  • Reach new prospects

  • Build relationships

  • Position yourself as the local real estate expert

  • Attract people to your team

  • Create long-form real estate content quickly and easily

Podcasts are truly amazing because they are even easier to consume than videos and allow people to multi-task while listening. They’re a time hack of serious proportions.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I started my own podcast, The Real Estate Revolution, where I share no-bullshit advice on technology, the real estate industry, content marketing, and much more. If you haven’t already subscribed, please do!


I have been pushing real estate agents to start their own podcasts for months, but many are nervous because it sounds like hard, time-consuming work.

The truth is, it really isn’t. In terms of ROI, it is one of the best possible ways you can invest in your business right now.

So in order to remove some of the mystery, and make the process of getting your real estate podcast started, I have assembled this collection of resources for you to use.

Guys, this is advice I charge people $100 an hour to get in coaching sessions! But I’m sharing it with you now for free. All I ask, is that you subscribe to my podcast and share my podcast in exchange.

A Platform For Your Podcast

The first thing you need in order to have a podcast, is a platform to host it on.


I host mine on SoundCloud because it is fast, free, and easy to set up and use. Perfect for beginners!

There is also a paid option, if you want to be able to upload more than the monthly allowance, but it’s only $7/month (at the time of writing this article).

You can also post your podcast on Itunes if you want, but it is a bit more complicated to set up. Itunes requires you to first host your real estate podcast on your own independent website (get a free domain & hosting for it here) and then feed it into the back end of Itunes.

The audience on Itunes is definitely larger, but it will take more time and work to get started, so you just have to decide what is important to you.

The Right Podcast Audio Equipment

Let me be the first to tell you that nobody expects you to have a full sound studio for your podcast!

Many agents get bogged down by the idea that they need some big, fancy set up in order to start a profitable podcast, but that simply is not the case.

Just like with any form of content, it’s not about the quality of the delivery, it’s all about the quality of the content. Take The Blair Witch for example. For years that was the most profitable film ever made, even though it made people motion-sick to watch.

That being said, there are two microphones that I recommend. The first one is a cheap lapel mic that is portable, and will plug into any phone or computer. In my opinion, every podcaster and video creator should have this mic to do interviews and episodes on the go or in the office.

If you have some extra cash to invest into your podcast, then I say go ahead and spring for this mic, which will provide you with a higher quality of sound and noise reduction. This mic a favorite among many podcasters, is still at a reasonable price point and is worth the investment if you plan to do the majority of your podcasts in one place.

A Telling Title

The title is where a lot of people screw up.

While it is okay to be somewhat creative with the title of your podcast, you need to make sure it is an obvious representation of what your podcast is about.

Once you have invested the time or money to produce powerful real estate content you have to distribute it through the proper channels. Otherwise, it will just sit around collecting dust instead of collecting leads. Your content marketing strategy is just as important, if not more so, than the content itself.

The same rules that you would use to select a strategic domain name apply here too. In other words, you need a podcast title that is relevant to something your target audience would be searching for in google or on the podcast platform.

For example, if you decide to do a podcast that is all about flipping real estate in Las Vegas, you should choose an obvious title for your podcast like, Las Vegas Flipping 101. It might sound generic, but the point is that people should be able to know instantly what your podcast is about, and whether or not it is for them, just by the title.

Eye-Catching Cover Art

Just like a book or an album, you need to have cover art for your real estate podcast.

If you decide to go with SoundCloud, you are going to need two different designs. One for your profile page cover (think Facebook Cover) and one for your actual tracks. The cover is a long, slender rectangle, while the tracks are more square.

In episode 5 of The Real Estate Revolution I interview Keller Williams Tech Ambassador Ulysses Baltazar about the influence of technology on real estate agents. Ulysses Baltazar a Former United States Army Special Forces Soldier, now a U.S. Veteran servicing and helping the local community achieve their American Dream in real estate.

I designed my own using Canva. They already have the template size that you need for a SoundCloud cover so it is pretty easy to drag and drop one together in a few minutes,

However, if you hate graphic design, don’t have the extra time to spare, or just want something more professional, I suggest that you hire someone on Fiverr for about $5 to get it done for you.

A Well-Mixed Podcast Intro & Outro

To give your real estate podcast a more professional feel, I highly recommend that you create a branded show intro and outro to include and the beginning and end of every track.

For mine, I did a voice recording on my Iphone and sent it to a producer that I found on Fiverr, explaining to him how I wanted the intro and outro to sound and feel.

Since The Real Estate Revolution is meant to have a bit more edge than most podcasts, I told him to make it sound welcoming and fast-paced.

Of course, I could have created both of them myself, but in the interest of saving myself time and frustration, I outsourced it and had it done by the next day.

Make sure to include a strategic call to action in both your intro and your outro to motivate your listeners to do whatever it is you are trying to accomplish. That could be to subscribe to your podcast, join your Facebook group, or anything else that you deem valuable to your business.

Scripts That Make People Subscribe

If you want people to listen and subscribe, you need to provide them with content that they actually want.

The majority of the content on your real estate podcast MUST be created with the best interest of the listener in mind. Otherwise, you will never get anywhere. Be very, very careful not to over-promote yourself or you will drive your listeners away.

Instead, create a content strategy filled with topics that your target audience cares about.

When you are preparing the scripts, make sure that you are only including content that will form connections, entertain, and/or provide real value to the listener.

You have to give them compelling reasons to keep listening, subscribe, share, and keep coming back.

A Marketing Plan

Just like with any form of content, you need to have a marketing plan that is just as strong as the content itself.

When you have a brand new real estate podcast, you can’t expect the “build it and they will come” scenario to play out for you.

You need to spread the word!

Take to social media to let people know about your podcast. You might even want to create a whole separate group for your podcast where you can promote the episodes, connect with listeners, and exchange ideas.

In this episode of The Real Estate Revolution, I catch up with the founder of Empowering Women in Real Estate, Karen Cooper to discuss loneliness, marketing gimmicks, and exercising your efficiency. Karen is also the owner of the Platinum Group Real Estate team at Pearson Smith Realty in Northern VA.

You may also want to think about enlisting the help of some local sponsors, which you could advertise during the show.

Interviews are another excellent way to explode your exposure. Simply request that everyone you interview promote the show in exchange for the exposure. Most will be more than willing to do this for you, giving you tons of free exposure to new prospects that could have cost you a fortune to reach.

You may also want to send out an email letting people know that you are launching a podcast and inviting them to subscribe. Be sure to include the benefits to the listener within the body of the email, so they will know what’s in it for them.

Thick Skin & Patience

This is the hardest part for most people.

In the very beginning, it is only natural to get excited and amped about your new real estate podcast.

After all of that time and creative energy preparing, you want to launch and see a flood of subscribers.

For most of you, that is not going to happen.

Just like with a new blog, or Youtube channel, a podcast doesn’t become successful overnight (most of the time).

Do not get discouraged if you go a whole year of creating weekly episodes before you get 10 subscribers.

Remember, we are still in the early stages of audio, and this is going to take a lot of patience and thick skin.

When you get in on the ground floor of something big like this, you need to deploy massive amounts of faith and confidence in your efforts. With persistence and strategy, I promise you this will pay off in the long run.
